Weekending

Happy belated Thanksgiving!
Hope everyone had a great weekend with family and friends.

My mom came up and we did some exploring with the kids since the weather was gorgeous.

We went to the Charles Pinckney National Historic Site in Mount Pleasant on Friday.

Grabbed some lunch at Zoes Kitchen...

and then went shopping at Mount Pleasant Town Center

After shopping, we accidently found Daniel Island Waterfront Park
It was a nice little park with swings right on the Wando River. There was also a fishing pier and trails. I loved this turtle fountain!

On Saturday, we headed to one of my favorite parks, Riverfront Park in North Charleston.

It was a perfect day to walk along the Cooper River!

After the park, we headed downtown for lunch at Black Bean Co. on King Street.

We then did some shopping on King Street and walked through the campus of the College of Charleston.  I have lived here for THREE years and I had never walked the block over from shopping to see the campus!! Ugh!! It is just so pretty!

The pictures really don't do it justice. I've been on a lot of college campuses and this was definitely one of my favorites of all time. I recommend going on a Saturday when there aren't many people around so you can take pictures :)

How was your weekend? Do anything fun?

Weekending

We had a pretty relaxing weekend.
On Saturday morning, my mom came into town and we spent a lot of time walking some land she is thinking about putting an offer in on.

We also spent some time researching plants that keep mosquitoes away because they were everywhere. I didn't get bit but my poor mom had like 5 bites on her face!

After our walk in the woods, we headed to Perfectly Frank's for lunch.
I attended the Charleston Food Film Festival recently  and was in the mood for another yummy Frank Cuda dog.

After eating, we headed over to look at some model homes so my mom could get some ideas for the house she is going have built.

Sunday was spent making pumpkin pancakes, baking cookies and staying in my pjs all day watching football.
How was your weekend? Anything fun planned for this week?

five on friday

one.

Depending on where you live, you might not have heard about Megan Hiatt (above holding her twin babies). Megan, with the help of her father Jimmy (a friend of my mom's), was moving out of the house she had been sharing with her 5 month old twins and (ex) boyfriend while the boyfriend was at work. A family member of the boyfriend contacted him, apparently, and let him know she was packing up. The boyfriend left work early (he was in the Navy), came home, shot and killed Jimmy, forced Megan to hold her babies while he shot and killed them, shot Megan multiple times and then shot and killed himself.

Megan is going into her 5th surgery today. A friend of the family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with medical expenses. There is also another page set up to help with Jimmy's funeral and burial expenses. You can read more about what happened here, though there are some inaccuracies in the article.

two.

I made this Chocolate-Bourbon Pecan Pie (also called a Kentucky Bourbon Pie) this week and it was amazing. I used Maker's Mark bourbon because I read that was the best one to use.

three.

My husband and I visited Hampton Park in downtown Charleston the other day. It has a running/bike lane around the park plus plenty of walking paths within the grounds. We really liked it and will definitely be back.

four.
My husband tried out Anna Bell's a few weeks ago in North Charleston with some buddies from work and he hasn't stopped talking about it so we made a stop on Wednesday. I had the Southwestern burger and it was pretty good. I especially love their seasoned fries.

five.
I have been wearing this necklace non-stop that I got from my bestie back in Texas for my birthday. Now I just need the matching earrings ;)

Hope y'all have a great weekend!

The Weekend

Last Thursday my husband and I attended the Charleston Food Film Festival after I won tickets from Sydney's blog. This was our first time attending and it was so much fun.
We showed up for the VIP access where we were treated to yummy appetizers and drinks from local restaurants and breweries.

All of my pictures turned out so blurry but here was me and my husband at the festival

Once the general admission started, people quickly took their seats and the films began.  As you're watching the short films, food and/or drinks are brought out on a tray and passed down each row. The first film, Cuda, was about Perfectly Frank's in Summerville. The Cuda is one of the hot dogs served there so they passed down dogs for us to try.

Next up was Cultured Craft Beer so we sampled six local breweries. The third film, my favorite, was Growing Local: Seeding a Dream. It wasn't about a local business but instead about a farm in Maine. The owners of the farm brought organic carrots for us to try. Up next was Sollo, a film from Spain. The food for this was a pork & sturgeon morcilla which was my least favorite food of the night. The final short film was Ain't That a Blessing about two local camp meeting sites produced by the local paper, The Post and Courier. Chick's Fry House made some delicious fried chicken thighs with B&B pickles and hot pepper jelly as an homage to the film and the food shown.

After the films were over, the after party started. There were so many delicious drinks and foods to be sampled. My favorite was a cake sample from Twenty Six Divine. If I ever need a cake to be made, I am definitely going there! After all the food before, during and after the film, we pretty much had to roll ourselves to the car! The Food Film Festival was such a great time and I definitely hope to go again next year!

On Saturday we headed to Cupcake Camp: Charleston at the Aloft near the airport. Basically you just show up and try free cupcakes. They were accepting donations to benefit the Charleston Animal Society so we were excited about that since one of our animals was adopted from there.

That cupcake on the back  right was ahhhhmazing. It was a sweet potato pie cupcake with marshmallow frosting...sooo soo good! After getting our fill of cupcakes we headed to Starbucks for one last BOGO free holiday drinks!

Peppermint mocha frappucinos are my fav. What's your favorite Starbucks holiday drink?

Did you do anything exciting this past weekend?!

Can I just move in?

We stopped by a beautiful model home in Summerville a couple of weeks ago at the new Summers Corner neighborhood.  I should've taken more pictures (the kitchen was amazing) but here are a few so you can get an idea of how awesome it was!
 The entryway
 The living room
 The eat-in kitchen/dining room
 The upstairs landing/hallway
 Master bedroom sitting area
Sitting area outside the front door
How cute is this holiday decor??

There were several other model homes open for tours but this one was my favorite. The neighborhood recently opened so there is lots going on. If you like touring homes, I would definitely suggest visiting. They also have a cafe in the neighborhood so you can grab a coffee or a bite to eat!

Have you toured any cute model homes lately?
